The first “Twilight” movie may have opened back in 2008, but there’s still plenty of interest in the human-vampire romance franchise created by author Stephenie Meyer. Not only is a potential “Twilight” TV series in early development, the Oregon town of St. Helens is hosting “A Twilight Celebration” this summer.

The Columbia County Community is already known for hosting “Spirit of Halloweentown,” an autumnal event inspired by the 1998 Disney Channel TV movie, “Halloweentown,” that filmed on location in St. Helens.

“Twilight,” which starred the then-little known Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, filmed in several Northwest locations, including Portland, Oxbow Park, Carver, Ecola State Park, Silver Falls State Park, Oregon City, Estacada and the Columbia River Gorge.

But fans of the movie may recall some St. Helens locations. For example, the house where Bella Swan, the high school student played by Stewart, lived with her father, Charlie (Billy Burke). Though Meyer set “Twilight” in the small Washington town of Forks, because of its reputation for a vampire-friendly cloudy and rainy climate, the Swan home depicted in “Twilight” is located in St. Helens. The bookstore Bella visits that’s supposedly located in Port Angeles, Washington, is also a St. Helens location.

According to the Discover Columbia County website, “A Twilight Celebration” is happening Aug. 4-6, and will include guest appearances by actors Edi Gathegi, who played the vampire, Laurent; Kellan Lutz, who played Emmett Cullen, brother of Edward Cullen, Pattinson’s vampire character; and Matt Bushell, who played Phil Dwyer, Bella’s stepfather.

Events scheduled for the “Twilight Celebration” weekend include a costume and lookalike contest; a “Twilight” challenge; a Sand Island sand castle competition; entertainment; food; and more.
